BAJS Annual Conference ‘World In Crisis’ 5-7 July 2021
We are delighted to be able to share details of the programme and registration for the annual conference of the British Association for Jewish Studies on ‘World in Crisis: Reflections and Responses from Antiquity to the Present’, which will run online from 5th – 7th July 2021. The conference is intended to provide a forum for reflection and critical contributions to significant, long-standing or contemporary issues of crisis and response, and the place of Jews, Judaism and Jewish Studies within this. As always, there are also papers that reflect current work-in-progress.
The programme for the conference covers diverse chronologies and geographies. We have over 180 speakers this year with five or six parallel sessions. The programme and details of the conference can be found at: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/parkes/news/events/2021/07/05-bajs-2021.page
Due to a generous grant from the European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS), we are able to make the conference free to all European postgraduate researchers/doctoral students and early career researchers. Further generous donations to the Parkes Institute have allowed us to extend this to all doctoral students and ECRs beyond Europe, and have fortunately helped us to keep the costs of the conference low. We are hugely grateful for the support of the EAJS and the Parkes Institute. The conference fees are as follows:
- Non-members of BAJS: 35 GBP
- Members of BAJS: 25 GBP
- Postgraduate researchers/doctoral students and academics not currently in a full-time permanent role: free
The conference fee will go towards the costs of purchasing the conference platform, zoom licenses, and tech support for the conference. As you know, BAJS is a non-profit-making organisation, and we are really delighted that we have been able to keep the costs low.
Registration is open and the deadline is 17.00 GMT on Friday 25th June. You can register as a speaker or participant via the University of Southampton’s secure online store:
Details of how to access the conference platform will be circulated after the registration deadline to those who have registered.
We hope that the online format will allow many to attend even if not sharing a paper at the conference, and we very much look forward to seeing you in July!
