How to become a member of BIAJS

Membership is open to anyone interested in an academic approach to Jewish studies. Members of BIAJS work in a wide range of academic disciplines including history, religious studies, theology, literature, linguistics and sociology. Membership of BIAJS offers the opportunity to take part in the conferences, receive the bulletin and other mailings throughout the year, and a number of other benefits (see http://biajs.co.uk/about/members-benefits).

There are three categories of membership:

Ordinary Members Ordinary membership is open to scholars concerned with the academic pursuit of Jewish Studies. Ordinary members are entitled to vote at meetings of the Association and eligible for membership of the Committee and for Office.

  1. Student Members Student membership is open to graduate students working for a higher degree in the field of Jewish Studies.
  2. Associate Members Associate membership is open to (a) those outside the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland who have a serious academic interest in Jewish Studies, and (b) those within the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland with a serious academic interest in Jewish Studies who are not professionally involved in the subject. Associate members will not have voting rights but are welcome to attend the Association’s conferences.

Renewal of Membership

Members wishing to renew their membership can do so via this form. This will give you the option to make payment via PayPal or direct bank transfer. If you wish to pay by bank transfer, please email the Membership Secretary, Dr Hannah Ewence (BIAJSmembership@gmail.com).

Subscription fees

  • Ordinary Members – £40.00
  • Student/Retired Members – £15.00
  • Associate Members – £25.00

Please note that membership fees are non-refundable.

Receiving BIAJS communications

Recently we discontinued an out-of-date Mailchimp mailing list for BIAJS members. We had for some years been relying more heavily on the WordPress website mailing list and only rarely cross-posting on this other Mailchimp mailing list, in order to make sure as many people received our communications as possible. The Mailchimp list therefore did not serve a purpose anymore, since the WordPress list had by far more activity and subscriptions. We recently contacted anyone whose email was listed on the Mailchimp but not on WordPress in order to keep contact information up to date. If you find you are no longer receiving BIAJS communications regularly, then please re-subscribe on our BIAJS website’s main WordPress mailing list. You can subscribe to the WordPress list on the right column (scroll down) of the main website homepage where it says “Sign me up!” using your preferred email. There is no requirement to be a current member in good standing (paid up) in order to receive our mailings and communications.
