BIAJS PhD Studentship Call

We invite applications for the BIAJS PhD studentship, which is now vacant. It is intended that interviews for the studentship will take place either online before or in person during the BIAJS 2026 Conference at Birkbeck, University of London, 13-15 July 2026, with immediate effect for the successful applicant. The studentship holder will play a role in committee activity, sitting in on committee meetings and taking part in the running of the society. It is intended that the studentship holder will carry out an independent BIAJS-related project or two during their studentship, for the benefit of BIAJS and its chief aim of the promotion of Jewish studies in the UK and Ireland. The studentship is held for duration of doctoral studies until graduation and contains a modest stipend of £1500 per annum, disbursed twice annually (£750 x2).

If you are a current PhD student based in the UK or Ireland, working in some area of Jewish studies, in any general and broad sense, ancient through contemporary and regardless of current institutional department affiliation or discipline, please send your application (a cover letter and CV, and the name of two agreed referees) to the secretary, Lindsey Davidson: secretarybiajs@gmail.com, by 5PM on Monday 22 June 2026.

There is no requirement for applicants to be student members already, but we expect the successful studentship holder to become a fully-paid student member of BIAJS during the studentship.
