BIAJS Essay Prize 2025
We are delighted to announce the BIAJS student essay prize winners for 2025:
Undergraduate winners (split):
Dylan Moss (Oxford), “Lancelot as a New King David: Medieval Jewish Notions of Davidic Descent as Reflected in the Medieval Hebrew Arthurian Romance”
Ethan Yang (UCL), “A comparative study of the magical כשׁף terminology in the Hebrew Bible and its Aramaic rendering in the Targumim”
Postgraduate winner:
Max Benster (Oxford), “Reflecting on the Cosmos in Hellenistic Judaism”
The panel were very impressed by the quality and engagement with primary sources in the original languages matched by sophisticated analysis in both Dylan’s and Ethan’s works. We had an excellent range of time periods and approaches in the group of UG submissions.
About the essay prize: We encourage you to submit your promising students’ UG final year dissertations, and best postgraduate students’ essays (excluding postgraduate/doctoral dissertations/thesis), for next year’s BIAJS student essay prize.
