Project Assistant to support Learning from Yorkshire’s Holocaust Torah Scrolls
The School of English and Centre for Jewish Studies (Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures) have a vacancy for an impact Project Assistant. The part-time post is available for a fixed-term period from 3rd February 2025 to 30th June 2025. The hours of work will be variable and according to need (the Project Assistant will usually be required to work 6 hours per week depending on the calendar, which will sometimes require more hours and sometimes fewer). The Project Assistant will be paid at the rate of £12.96 per hour, which is based on a full-time salary of £23,581 a year on the University of Leeds Grade 3. The salary will be paid monthly.
The first of its kind on this topic only enabled by inter-organisational collaboration, the project will allow charities, religious/cultural communities, an archive (all within the region of Yorkshire) and researchers to learn from each other’s different connection to Holocaust Torah scrolls. As well as opening up the University of Leeds Cultural Collections & Galleries, the outputs, benefits and impacts will include skills development, public education, an exhibition proposal, a co-authored blog shared across partners, and a collaborative partnership for an external grant for an interfaith follow-on project. The Project Assistant will work closely with the Project Lead and Co-Leads to provide administrative support for a collaborative event and will help to capture and develop impacts. The successful candidate will be able to work within a team environment and use their own initiative, be creative and responsive, and define aspects of the work for themselves.
Job Description
Assistance is required for the following tasks:
- Provide administrative support for project event, ‘Learning from Yorkshire’s Holocaust Torah Scrolls’.
- Help to structure and devise co-creative activities for project event.
- Engage in community outreach with project partners and stakeholders.
- Arrange and take minutes for meetings between project partners.
- Undertake publicity for project, including social media.
- Write project blog.
- Support Project Lead in preparation of a follow-on exhibition proposal.
- Attend the ‘Learning from Yorkshire’s Holocaust Torah Scrolls’ project event on 21st May 2025.
This opportunity will provide excellent work experience and will enhance skills such as communication, creativity, problem-solving and analysing, initiative, independence and teamwork.
The Project Assistant will be expected to write a blog reflecting on their time in post at the end of the appointment.
Person specification
Essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and spoken.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Good digital skills: competent user of the MS Office package, familiarity with university platforms such as Minerva Ultra and MS Teams, experience using diverse forms of social media, experience with design software (e.g., MS Publisher, Canva, Photoshop).
- Good team player.
- Ability to work unsupervised as well as demonstrate good judgement.
- Ability to accept constructive criticism and work through multiple drafts.
- Confidence in dealing with people at all levels.
- Ability to present data, documents and information clearly and accurately.
Desirable
- Experience of community outreach/engagement.
- Arts, Humanities and Cultures knowledge.
- Knowledge of Jewish or other minority communities.
