Assistant Professorship in Second Temple Judaism

The Faculty of Divinity wishes to appoint to an Assistant Professorship in Second Temple Judaism, from 1 September 2024.

We seek applicants with teaching experience and with a record of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing outstanding research in this field. Candidates should have excellent knowledge of biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

The person appointed will be required to deliver undergraduate teaching in the field of Second Temple Judaism and to contribute to the teaching of biblical Hebrew at an advanced level. They might also contribute to the teaching of other papers in the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible area. They will be expected to give lectures and classes to undergraduates and to design and lead classes and seminars at MPhil level. They will also be required to examine at undergraduate, MPhil, and doctoral level, and to supervise MPhil and PhD students.

The successful applicant will be required to conduct and publish outstanding original research in their field, and will be encouraged to seek opportunities to win external research funding. They will be expected to contribute to the general flourishing of Jewish Studies within the Faculty and the University, and will be encouraged to develop productive collaborations, in teaching or research, with academic colleagues in cognate fields in other Faculties, such as Asian and Middle Eastern Studies or Classics. The role also requires its holder to carry out a share of the academic administrative work of the Faculty in general and of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible subject area in particular.
